The Formula Woman
Concept was launched in 2003 into the male-dominated arena of Motorsport. As
the first UK driving Championship exclusively for women it met with mixed
reviews - except from the women it was designed to appeal to.
Objectives
The competition is targeted at novice female drivers from all walks of life and
its intention is to find 16 of Britain’s most talented racing drivers and
to bring more women into what has been a male-dominated sport.
2006 Formula Woman Championship
The 2006 Formula Woman Championship was open to all novice women
drivers aged 18 years and over, with a valid UK driving licence and who had
never held a racing licence. Assessment days took place throughout the UK, from
Scotland to Wales, and Ireland to England. The women were assessed on their
skill level in a variety of tests, including driving, interview and fitness.
Once assessed the thousands of applicants were cut to the final 100. These
finalists recently took part in the televised Elimination Camp, which enabled
Formula Woman find the best 16 drivers to compete in the 2006 Formula Woman
Championship.
The drivers will be racing Caterham Roadsport B 1.6-litre K series engined cars
in an 8 race championship at top race circuits around the country.
